Ken Sullivan's Image of
the Month
This Image of a Spanish Dancer
(Hexabranchus sanguineus) was taken in the Red Sea
in April 2008
I used a 17 - 35mm zoom lens on my Fuji S2Pro in
a Sea & Sea housing with twin Inon strobes
This image was taken on a night dive, close to one
of the boat moorings, in Shark's Bay in 10 mtrs
of water.
It is generally known that I prefer a nice cold
Gin and Tonic at the end of a diving day and not
a night dive. On this occasion I was sweet-talked
into the dive and used my wide-angle setup, just
incase we saw something unusual. Fifteen minutes
into the dive we spotted this beautiful Spanish
Dancer- some 200mm in length, just above the coral.
I took three shots @ f16 and 1/90th sec. 100/ISO,
at the 35mm end of the Zoom.
This was the first one, the second was a 'head-on'
shot and the third one included our smiling dive
guide Mussa.
This was the last dive of an excellent week's diving
between Ras Mohamed and Jackson Reef
in the Northern Red Sea
